Making Your Maiden Name a Middle Name

Most women are happy to take their husband's surname upon marriage but many do not like the idea of totally abandoning their maiden name and would like a way of keeping a link to their family name without having a double-barrelled surname.

A solution is to have your maiden name added as a middle name, which can only be done by Deed Poll.

After your wedding, you should apply for your Deed Poll, which will show your name before marriage changing to the name you wish to use after you are married (i.e. a surname change to your husband's and the addition of your maiden name as a middle name).

Because your name change is by Deed Poll alone, you do not need to show your marriage certificate to everyone - only your Deed Poll.
